The district's Health Services Department is led by a school nursing team to ensure the health and safety of our students and our staff. Please read the information below to learn more about our department. The left-hand column has the appropriate forms for your child's medical needs.
- When a student comes to the nurse’s office, their health will be assessed as a whole. If the nurse determines they have any of the symptoms below and/or is potentially contagious, you will be called to pick the student up. Sometimes this may be a result of common symptoms that we have seen in the school population.
- Diagnosed Contagious Illness: Students should remain home for 24 hours after starting antibiotics, unless authorized in writing by their physician.
- Diarrhea: Students experiencing 2 or more watery stools in a 24 hour period, especially if combined with poor appearance, nausea and or vomiting should remain at home.
- Vomiting: A student who has been or is vomiting. Students should be free from vomiting for 24 hours prior to returning to school.
- Eyes: If your child exhibits any mucus or pus drainage from the eye, this may be a sign of conjunctivitis (pink eye), a contagious illness. Please keep your child at home and see your healthcare provider.
- Fever: Students should remain home if they have an oral temperature of 100.0 or higher (before taking medication such as Tylenol or Advil). They must be fever free, and without medication that reduces fever, for 24 hours before returning to school. If your student is picked up by the nurse during a school day with a fever, usually this means the next day too. If you have questions, please ask the school nurse.
- Rash: If your child exhibits a body rash, especially with fever or itching, he/she should remain at home and be assessed by your healthcare provider. Heat rashes and allergic reactions are NOT contagious and these children may attend school.
Special note: Symptoms such as Sore Throat, Nasal Drainage or Cough can be contagious or a result of allergies. However, extended symptoms could result in fever or infections, at which point they will need to stay home. Your school nurse will assess a student’s health as a whole, physically, what they tell us, and what a teacher tells us. When we put that picture together, sometimes that is what means they should go home. If you have a question, please ask the school nurse.
